Our clients had recently moved into their new home after relocating to be nearer their children and grandchildren. While they loved the house, the ground level wasn’t working for them – with the living room to the front of the house and only a small kitchen at the rear, it lacked space and flow.
They asked us to design a rear, single-storey extension that would open up their kitchen and create a substantial new living space.
We decided to twist things round a little. Rather than having patio doors opening on to the rear, east-facing garden, we designed their bespoke home extension with Velux windows and patio doors facing the sunny south and opening onto a sheltered patio area, ideal for outside entertaining.
The gable front is half glazed so our clients benefit from a little privacy and the view onto their rear garden.
The house lies in a conservation area so we roughcast half of the exterior surface, then finished with stone and slate sympathetic to the existing building. The volume ceiling works perfectly with the property too and enhances the feeling of space.
What our clients have now is a spacious kitchen with dining area, snug and modern stove – a living space that’s functional, flows and has a definite wow factor.
